Carbochemical

260,000 t of tar per year

We carry out our carbochemical activity at the Trubia plant. We are the most important tar distiller in southern Europe and one of the main international producers of pitch and naphthalene.

Circular processes

Our commitment to the circular economy came about in 1943 with the distillation of tar into products with greater added value. Using a by-product of the steel industry as a raw material, we produce key products for other sectors, such as the production of aluminium, steel, carbon black and fine chemicals, avoiding a negative environmental impact.

High-performance products

We use our own technology to manufacture high-performance products, such as pitch with low ash and volatile content and naphthalenes of varying degrees of purity, including the purest naphthalene in the world.

Naphthalenes

Characteristics
Different grades depending on the naphthalene content:
Technical naphthalene: 96.5% naphthalene
Refined naphthalene
Pure naphthalene: 99.9% pure naphthalene (the only one in the world). Low sulphur (<2 ppm) and nitrogen (<5 ppm) contents

Oils

Characteristics
Carbolic oil: distils between 140 and 210ºC
Heavy oil: distils between 230 and 290ºC
Anthracene oil: distils between 300 and 395ºC

ACTIVITY

Coke

130,000 t per year

We are the first producer in Spain and one of the main ones in Europe. We develop our high-performance foundry coke activity from the Ciaño plant in Langreo using high-quality coking coal at high temperature, recovering some by-products and part of the gas produced to generate electrical energy from 2 generating units with total power of 4MW (15 Gigawatts per year).

Products

We produce high specification coke, with high carbon content, low ash content, high calorific value, high mechanical resistance and uniform granulometry for different sectors and applications.
